Ambassador attends Vesak Day in Ottawa at Parliament Hill
On 10 May 2017, His Excellency Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to Canada, and Mrs. Wannipa Isarabhakdi were invited to attend the Vesak Day in Ottawa at Parliament Hill, which took place alongside the Vesak event at Ottawa City Hall this past Sunday. This was aimed at raising awareness of the importance of Vesak Day in the Nation’s Capital as well as to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday this year.
A number of dignitaries were in attendance at the official ceremony, including MP Pierre Poilievre; MP Dianne Watts; MP Chandra Arya; His Worship Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa; His Excellency Kali Prasad Pokhrel, Ambassador of Nepal; and His Excellency Kyaw Myo Htut, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Ambassador Vijavat was also invited to make some remarks about the importance of Vesak Day along with some of the other dignitaries.

During the event, there was a guided mindfulness meditation session and dhamma talk. There was also a dana offering to the Sangha by The Thai Dance Troupe of Ottawa (TDO) who joined other Buddhist and Asian organizations in celebrating Vesak Day at Parliament Hill.
