GENERAL VISA INFORMATION

Please read this information carefully before applying for any type of visas.

 

Canadian passport holders with at least 6 months validity remaining on the passport and a confirmed airline ticket out of Thailand (proof of leaving within 30 days) do not need a visa for visiting Thailand up to 30 days for tourism purposes. While those entering Thailand overland from neighboring countries for tourism purposes may stay up to 15 days.

 

Important Notice:  Upon arrival in Thailand, please check the last date which you are allowed to stay in Thailand stamped in your passport by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival. If you stay beyond the specified date, you may receive a fine for overstaying in Thailand.  The Royal Thai Embassy cannot be held responsible for any fine incurred as a result of your violation of Thai Immigration Law.

 

Requirements to obtain a visa:

 

1.      A valid Canadian passport must be submitted (no copies). The passport should be valid at least 6 months and contain some blank visa pages.  Damaged, invalid or altered passports will not be accepted.  Failure to observe this request will result in the refusal of a visa.

 

2.      One visa application form filled out completely and signed in black or blue ink.

 

3.   Two recent passport size photographs must be submitted with the application form.  The Embassy will not accept the following types of photos:  photocopies, scanned photos, party photos or black & white photos from vending machines.

 

4.    Requirements stated in 1, 2 and 3 are not necessarily applicable to some nationals and holders of Certificate of Identity and Travel Documents. The Embassy may request additional application forms, photos, as well as other supporting documents for the visa if deems necessary. If you are not a holder of Canadian passport, please contact the Embassy for detailed information regarding the visas.

 

5.      Visas by mail: the applicant must include a prepaid express post self-addressed envelop for the return of the passport, in the absence of the prepaid express post envelop the Embassy will not be responsible for the return of the passport or should the applicant put only a self-addressed envelope with ordinary postage, the Embassy is not responsible if the passport gets lost in the mail. The Embassy no longer returns passports by courier services.

 

6.      Visa fees (effective December 1, 2011):

Effective December 1, 2011. Fees shown in Canadian dollars.


Transit visa:  $35.00 per entry          
Tourist visa:  $40.00 per entry           
Non-Immigrant Visa-- 3 months validity: $70 single entry
Non-Immigrant visa--1 year validity: $180 multiple entries

Only money orders are accepted when applying by mail for the visa and payable to the Royal Thai Embassy in Canadian funds only. Personal cheques, company cheques, debit cards and credit cards are not accepted.

Exemptions:  Nationals of the following countries are exempted from all transit, tourist, and Non-Immigrant visa fees: Republic of Korea, Tunisia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.

            N.B.    Multiple entries are not issued for tourist visas.  Applicants who apply for a Non-Immigrant visa for one year with multiple entries is only granted under strict consideration and discretion of the Embassy and to call for detailed information regarding the issuance of Non-Immigrant visas.

 

            In all cases, the Embassy may request additional information or documents depending on the type of passport and nationality and the type of visa being issued.  Your application may be refused or delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

 

Validity of Visas:  Visas must be utilized within 90 days from the date of issuance (six months in cases of more than 1 entry).  The total validity will not exceed more than 6 months and under consideration of the issuing officer.

 

List of countries whose nationals do not require a visa when entering Thailand for the purpose of tourism for a stay not exceeding 30 days or 90 days. A valid passport and confirmed airline ticket with the date of departure must be shown to the Immigration at the port of entry.

 

30 days:  Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Laos, Luxembourg,  Macau, Malaysia, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Vietnam.

 

90 days:  Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Korea (ROK), Peru

 

 

List of countries whose nationals may apply for a visa at immigration checkpoints before entering Thailand for the purpose of tourism for stay not exceeding 15 days (Visa on Arrival-TR 15).

 

            Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Taiwan, Ukraine.

 

List of countries which are holders of Diplomatic, Official or Service passports do not require a for a stay not exceeding:

 

30 days:  Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Myanmar, Oman, Vietnam.

 

90 days:  Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bhutan, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea (ROK), Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Nepal, Panama, Peru, The Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay.

 

 

PERIOD OF STAY IN THAILAND BY VISA CLASSIFICATION;

 

1.    Diplomatic & Official Visas:  Issued to holders of Diplomatic, Official, Service passports and United Nations Laissez-Passer, free of charge upon request by official letters.  Duration of stay will be granted as necessary.

 

2.    Transit visas:  Issued for 30 days stay in Thailand with no extension or for connecting flights. Applicant is not permitted to engage in any occupation or employment.  A confirmed airline ticket for onward destination must be shown to officers at the port of entry.

 

3.    Tourist visas:  Issued for 60 days stay in Thailand.  Another 30 days may be granted under the consideration of the Immigration Bureau, soi Suamplu, South Sathorn Rd., Bangkok 10120, tel. 287-3114, 287-3101-10 (airport office tel. 535-1163, 535-1076), Thailand.  Applicant is not permitted to engage in any occupation or employment during his/her stay in Thailand.

 

4.      Non-Immigrant visas:  Issued for 90 days stay in Thailand.  Thai diplomatic missions and consulates may grant such visas at their own discretion. Non-Immigrant visas are issued for business, research, study, teach, and other work related purposes.  It is advisable to call the Embassy when applying for the Non-Immigrant visa as we will request additional documents and information.  Non-Immigrant visas are not issued for tourism.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  The Embassy does not issue work permits for foreigners who wish to work in Thailand.  The work permit is obtained from the Ministry of Labor & Social Welfare, Department of Employment, Alien Occupational Control Division, Thanon Mitmaitri, Dingdaeng, Bangkok, 10400, tel. 245-3518 or fax. 245-7289.

 

Health requirements:  Traveling from Canada to Thailand there is no need for inoculations, for more information regarding this matter please call the Embassy.

 

 

The Embassy requires 2 full working days for the issuance of visas.  It is advisable to submit all necessary documents for the visa at least 2 weeks in advance prior to departure date from Canada.

 

 

Visa hours for drop off and pick up:  Monday to Friday from 9.30 am – 11.30 am and 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm.

Chancellery: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Closed during lunch from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm

 

Consular Section: 9:30 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm

 

Both offices are also closed during most Thai and Canadian federal holidays. Please call to make sure we are not closed before coming.  The Embassy is also closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
